Steps to a Commission

  I did a commission recently. It started with the client seeing the embedded Chinese character tiles I created whilst at Hillion Mall. She said she had always wanted the Chinese character for "happiness" but had never found it sold anywhere.

  A discussion happened. She said she wanted a red background with a bit of gold; a solid black word; with a gold outline; and have it be a diamond.

  With that, I created a mock-up on a regular sized tile (9cm by 9cm).

  She wanted some adjustments with the word, and didn't want the background to be too gold.

  Okie dokies. Onwards with the actual piece.

  Background done. Now we do the sketch of the word.

  Progress...

  And after lots of fiddling with details...

  Voila!

  It was such a fun commission. :)
