Less talk-y, more tangle-y

Even though my daughter, Charlotte, is super cute... I'm sure most of you are here for the Zentangle art. So here's what I've been up to in terms of artsy things....

Some class mosaics to start with. From January....

  And from this month's classes...

I've also been slowly going through my stash of Travelling Tangles tiles.

Here's one from a Back to Basics swap. The start was created by Åsa Vading.

And here's how I completed it:

This one was a Zendala with a faux watercolour background and a butterfly stencil-ed outline on it, from Debbie New.... I thought about cutting out the butterfly entirely, but settled on just popping out its wings.

Shading was added using Polychromos coloured pencils. And tada!

A few more that I did with Debbie....

This one was from last year. The theme was "Embedded Letters". The start was by Jennifer Moor.

Took me a good long while to find a way to tie the tangles with the letter. But I loved how it turned out.

This one was from Lin Laidler. Very relaxing to complete it. Reminded me of a bamboo forest.

And this last one was from Pat Floerke.

I liked the idea of making it into a colour wheel, but I'm not sure whether the idea worked out visually...

I will be teaching a workshop at Jurong Town Hall tomorrow. A bunch of Certified Zentangle Teachers and I created 300 cards, each with a unique design. Here's one:

And if you'd like to see the rest, you can visit this link.

Like the card above says, thank you for taking time out of your day to take a peek at the creative things I've made. I hope you have a splendid weekend.

Charlotte Just Turned Eight Months Old!

When they say it all goes by so quickly, they really mean it.

Charlotte has really stretched the limits of my patience. She has also filled my days with more joy than I could ever hope for. Here are some of my favourite pictures of her from the past few months...

In this photo, the hairband she is wearing was made from the bow tie that my husband wore on his wedding day. Very cute and meaningful. Unfortunately, the little bub doesn't like things around her head, so she wasn't too fond of this headband.

Here she is at six months old!

Her she is with her grandmother...

And this was on Chinese New Year about a month ago. I like how the rolls on her arms don't really match up symmetrically. hahaha

  Coconut tree!

  Her father took this photo.

After my days at the Hillion Mall roadshow, I took Charlotte out for lunch. Just her and me. This was her first time in a high chair at a restaurant. (Previously, she couldn't sit for very long...) She looks like she's going to hop out of the chair and run away!

And here she is just last week, we were out with my husband and my mother-in-law...

Then we met Debbie New and her husband, and had a very unconventional meeting at an outdoor playground.

Pouty baby because it was almost feeding time, and how dare you not feed her on time!

The next day, we took a long journey by bus to go see my mother. I told Charlotte to take a nap, but she refused. Instead, she made friends with the people on the bus. When she got to my mum's place, she was so grumpy and tired. It was ridiculous!

But here she is, as a smiley baby... And we wore matching colours.

At eight months, she's starting to show more of her personality. She's stubborn and doesn't like to be told what to do. She's extremely curious. Generally a very happy baby. She LOVES food. Her teeth haven't come in yet. She can sit and roll and lift her butt up (in an attempt to stand) all on her own. She can stand for a little bit, with support... but she's very lazy. hahaha

She also loves having her picture taken, if you've noticed how well she makes eye-contact with the camera in the previous photos.

I can't wait to see what she learns by the time she turns one year old.

Roadshow at Hillion Mall with Debbie New

It's been a hot minute since I made a blog post... But so much has happened, and I have plenty to tell you.

On the 10th of February, I taught a closed-door class to a number of Singapore Certified Zentangle Teachers. The topic of choice was Embedded Letters. We used the Centre of Joy as our classroom venue.

We started off with a warm up on Bijou tiles....

And then went on to do a larger piece as a greeting card.

Thank you to Debbie New for organising the event. It couldn't have been a possibility without you.

The day after the Certified Zentangle Teachers class, Debbie and I set up a booth at Hillion Mall. Our goal was to raise awareness for our Zentangle classes, and also to sell some trinkets.

We also used some of our spare time to create some tiles related to the Embedded Letters technique... Such as this beauty:

  And this one....

  Or this one...

All in all, we were there for a total of eleven days, and by the end, I was pooped. Still smiling, though.

Debbie also got me thinking about using Chinese words within Embedded Letters. Here are two ATCs with that idea.

With this piece, I got someone got interested in asking me to do a commission.

She wanted the word "happy" written in Traditional Chinese, on a red background with some gold accents to it... This is what I came up with:

And with that, I am finished with this post. I wish you much happiness as we roll into March. Charlotte has just turned eight months old and I've created a blog post with a bunch of her pictures. hehehe

  Until next time, keep tangling!
