Stephanie is synonymous with productive.

This week has been really rewarding for me. I switched over to a new sketchbook because my old sketchbook was getting too messy. And as I transferred my old works into my new sketchbook, I was reminded of all the old patterns I used to love. I think that sparked creativity in me and I've just been overflowing with ideas. At the peak of my busy-ness, I was working on five tiles at once. And I'm really excited to show you all that I've created in the past week.

If you're a follower on my Instagram (@havepen_willdraw), you'd have seen this tile already.
I'm trying new things with Hollibaugh. Still haven't decided whether I should add shading on the Hollibaugh pattern itself, or leave it as it is. Any thoughts on that?

I completely forgot about "Rixty"... I think I'm going to be adding it to my tiles more often.

Playing around with lines, and also "African Artist".

"African Artist" was a new pattern I learnt recently, and to get a feel of it, I drew it on a Bijou tile. And the first time I drew it.... It didn't turn out quite right. I worked with it, though.... And then did another tile while looking at the step-outs properly.
Top: The not-quite-right, but still nice looking tile.
Bottom: "African Artist".

  Tiles for Joey's Challenge:
"Striping" is a wonderful pattern to work with.
I liked the pattern so much that I decided to do one on a black Zentangle tile.

And this is how it turned out.

Which do you like better?

  1. Very nicely done.

I like the one on a white tile better only because you can never get really good coverage with white on black and shading becomes a bear. I've decided to only use patterns that don't require filling when working on black. Like Munchin...I saw Molly Hollibaugh's video on Munchin on a black tile. She used something called white charcoal (I think) to add some shading. But I don't think that would have been helpful here.

    1. I used Zentangle's soapstone and a white pen to add highlight to the black tile.
But yes, I agree that working on black is much more difficult. I prefer white tiles a lot better. :)

  2. omigosh! All of your work here is fantastic. I envy your steady hand;-) I was just practicing African Artist this morning and I love it. I love both of your Striping tiles but I'm especially drawn to the first one. It's so bold and vivid.

  3. Lovely tiles, I like the white striping best because of the 3D look. I do like the black one too, it was clever to think of doing it. I can never decide with shading hollibaugh either. I do like the look in that it makes it look very up and under, but then I sometimes regret it as it can get very murky looking.

    1. I think using a sharper pencil helps with getting a more cleaner looking shading.
I think I'll be leaving the Hollibaugh tile as it is because I quite like the contrast of the white Hollibaugh against the patterned background.
